Releasing all the political prisoners is not unattainable demand. Releasing 1000 political prisoners is a step forward

The Association for Human Rights Legal Aid celebrates the order issued by the Ministry of Interior dated 03/09/2003 to release 1000 political prisoners of the AlGamaa Al-Islamiya (Islamic Groups).
AHRLA considers releasing 1000 political prisoners as a well-taken step by the Ministry of Interior towards reducing Human Rights violations in Egypt. Other excessive and quickly taken steps of the same kind are supposed to follow that positive one, such as, releasing all the other political prisoners who have not been trialed yet.
AHRLA also appeals the government to announce the real number of the political prisoners in Egypt. Emphasizing that the government should take into consideration while dealing with the political detainees the necessity of respecting Human Rights principals, the rules of law and the international human Rights instruments related to treatment of all the political prisoners. Those political prisoners have the right to access to fair trial before the specialized judicial authorities.
The 1000 political prisoners, who were released upon the decision issued by the Minister of Interior, had announced their rejection of using violence. The Minister of Interior on his turn has given his instructions to all the Egyptian prisons to respect Human Rights Principals in treating prisoners, moreover, he assured on widening the range of medical supervision and improving the food qualities.
AHRLA hopes that these instructions issued by Mr. Minister of Interior as well as the positive step of releasing that number of political prisoners would be in the frame of a more comprehensive and more public political direction that begins with releasing all the political prisoners and submitting them to a fair trial before natural judge, reaching at canceling the Emergency law as well as the military courts. Doing and achieving all these will be a real realization of Human Rights Principals.
